Yasar Halim is a Green Lanes bakery where no-nonsense service belies the sweetness of flaky filo desserts and soft, pillowy breads. You don’t come here for a chit-chat and a schmooze, instead this Turkish bakery and grocer is lined with fridges crammed full of silver trays heaving with cream cakes and stuffed borek. It’s all business: there are no chairs to sit on and most people don’t browse. They’re regulars and know what they want. Our favourite things to get are the pilavuna (a hefty boulder of brown bread studded with just-melting bits of salty cheese), the sticky, sweet pistachio baklava, and any of the lahmacun.
