You’re guaranteed to find two things at the original B. Patisserie: first, fantastic French pastries (in particular, the kouign-amann), and second, a long line. But you’ll only find one of those at B. Patisserie’s second location in Union Square. The kiosk at the corner of Geary and Powell has a smaller selection than the bakery’s main outpost, but you still have access to the heavy hitters, like those kouign-amann, chocolate chip cookies, and croissants. And instead of waiting in a 30-minute line, you’ll likely be on your way in under 10 minutes (just as long as the out-of-towners in front of you don’t slow things down). There are a handful of tables right outside that are usually full, so if you don’t get lucky, just find a free bench around the surrounding plaza.
