Capt. Benny’s is a giant seafood restaurant in the shape of a shrimp boat right off I-35. You’d think that would make it hard to miss, but there’s a decent chance you’ve driven past it for years without noticing. It weirdly blends into the scenery, and a meal here feels unexpectedly homey for a themed spot with half a dozen locations across Texas. The food is simple but satisfying. Fried shrimp, catfish, scallops—if it swims, they’ll fry it and drop it on a plate with fries and hushpuppies. You’re not here for the culinary equivalent of a TED Talk. You’re here to eat fried things inside a boat-shaped restaurant. The fried seafood is crispy and well seasoned, the beers are ice cold, and nobody’s going to leave complaining about a huge hole in their wallet. Sometimes that’s all you need.
