So when the chef behind them announced they were opening a cafe in Wicker Park, we had fairly high expectations. But Sarima delivers, with exciting pastries that pack Filipino and Indian flavors and breakfast dishes that make us want to kick-start every morning here. Fluffy donuts are loaded with sweet and tangy calamansi and shrikhand cream. Turon or kaju katli cookies channel the flavors of Filipino banana egg rolls or Indian cashew snacks. And there are tasty savory options, like a spiced potato and egg dosa or chicken tocino breakfast sandwich. If you want to sit and eat, there are a few tables in the small space it shares with a burger chain, Salt. But Sarima is just as good for a grab-and-go breakfast run, and their ube or kaju lattes warrant being late for that first meeting.
