The original NYC Sushi by Bou was a pioneer of the under-$100 omakase experience, where everyone at the counter gets a fixed menu of nigiri in a tight time window. There are now 10 locations in New York State alone, each serving a progression of 12 pieces served edomae-style for $70. You can also order a stepped-up 17-course menu that just reaches the magic $100 mark and includes a souvenir headband. We find the New Rochelle location of Sushi By Bou confusing, because the raw fish itself is better than most sushi places in Westchester. But the dining experience is lacking. The restaurant is hard to find, the room seems like it could pivot to a dance club at any minute, while the staff, including the sushi chefs, seem like they’re counting down the clock until the next seating. It’s a good choice to experience more premium selections like uni and fatty tuna at a reasonable price, as long as you can roll with the rest of the experience. Maybe just put the headband over your eyes and pretend you’re somewhere else.
