Located among the dive bars at the bottom of Church Street, this Eastern Mediterranean spot has won the local indie paper's best restaurant award five times over. The buzz translates inside, where seats are rarely empty and a neon flamingo presides over the noisy dinner crowd. Vermont is revered for beer but you'll want to get a cocktail here—even the NAs impress—and if you've never had ouzo, the anise-flavored Greek aperitif, this is probably the only place within a hundred miles to try it. Embrace the mezze format and order lots of things to share. There's plenty of lamb—lamb dolmas, lamb simit buns, lamb meatballs, lamb sausage pide—but don't let FOMO lead you to overlook simpler options. Here, a plate of cucumber spears with a simple feta sauce and fried capers is as memorable as the rest. There's a Ben & Jerry's just up the street, but the tahini sundae here easily outdoes anything on that menu.
