Long known as the godfather of Seattle-style teriyaki, Toshi Kasahara (and his chargrilled contributions) is still going strong at his restaurant in Mill Creek. But it's not just a monument to a legend—this low-key spot makes the area's best teriyaki. There are only two types of teriyaki on the menu—chicken thigh and sliced sirloin—a stark contrast to competitors who prepare upwards of three dozen items. But where Toshi’s lacks in quantity, they make up for it in really damn good marinated meat. Everything’s dialed in, be it chicken juiciness, the vibrant kick in the restaurant's proprietary spicy sauce, and a grilled steak execution that’d bring an apron-clad dad from a BBQ commercial to his knees. And despite the complete lack of dining room seating, getting a taste of what started it all is incredibly worthy of a pilgrimage, no matter where you’re coming from.
