Shodai serves our favorite teriyaki in the Central District. It's worth noting that their chicken's char is mostly seen and not tasted—nobody wants to feel like they’re french-kissing a chimney, after all. It makes for a more subtle flavor that gets along well with cornstarch-thickened sauce and rice that clumps without getting gummy. We also love the accompanying cabbage slaw drizzled with sunny-yellow dressing, the crackly-drippy gyoza, and the dusty dining room piano begging for a four-chord progression.
