This restaurant has no relation to Jermaine Dupri’s influential record label, So So Def. But if you need a linking theme, then we’d say the team behind So So Fed are bona fide hitmakers as well. Just look at items like tender soup dumplings regularly selling out. Or look at the lines that form outside the door like they're queued up for an album release party at the Velvet Room. While there are likely no celebrities inside, it's a wise strategy to come here right when they open because it’s the only opportunity to snag a table without a 30-minute wait. Operating out of Ok Yaki’s kitchen in East Atlanta Village since 2023, the pop-up whips up intensely flavorful Lao dishes that keep this place in the company of Atlanta’s top restaurants. And with food this good, you may appreciate the open kitchen setup, so you can grab a bar seat and take notes on how many different spices go into the hot red curry beef noodle soup (spoiler: it's a lot). And if the pho ever returns to the rotating menu, make those notes extra thorough on our behalf because the slightly sweet broth and tender meatballs have been our obsession. But returning each week to see what fresh innovation is on the ever-changing menu is half the fun. Luckily some standouts are always available. You should always start with the spicy but fresh papaya salad to help jumpstart your senses into full gear. Then move on to the crying tiger with thin, juicy cuts of medium rare steak that will set your mouth ablaze when dunked in the fiery tamarind dipping sauce. If there’s only one thing we dislike about this pop-up: the Lao restaurant is only open on Sunday and Monday nights. And we’d prefer to spend every day of the week there, enthusiastically eating a batch of sticky rice with our hands.
