Sushi-San in 12 South is bringing the party to the city’s sushi scene. Hip-hop blasts while you pop uni nigiri, and the buzzy bar scene with Gucci-clad soccer moms is constantly at capacity. This is a good place for a group that’s in the mood to throw down with some sake bombs and eat some sushi that’s better than it needs to be. For such a raucous spot, you might expect the food to take a back seat to the scene. It doesn’t. Start your meal with the texture-packed cashew-crispy rice salad for the table, then segue into the perfectly layered kabayaki eel roll. For heartier mains, Sushi-San’s beef ‘n bop is a savory riff of bibimbap that’s ideal for sharing, and the robata-grilled Vietnamese pork skewer is so tender it feels like chewing is almost optional. Outside, there’s a takeout soft serve window doling out vanilla cones dipped in strawberry, matcha, and ube. There are almost always people out there ordering a cone, whether it’s 80 or 30 degrees outside. Sounds like the makings of an after-party to us.
