Wally’s NW Soul has taken over the old Catfish Corner spot on 23rd and Jackson, and it works for a quick sit-down meal or easy weeknight takeout. Order anything with catfish (clearly, this corner has good catfish juju), in particular the po’boy stacked with well-seasoned fish and fried in a cornmeal crust so crunchy the edges alone could be their own snack. Sides are a mixed bag, including a mac and cheese could use a crispy top. But the excellent banana pudding pound cake is a creation we didn’t know we needed, and a pretty good excuse to swing by again soon.
