Maybe it’s an extension of the town’s famously casual dress code, but for a city as permanently packed with tourists and business travelers as San Francisco, there’s a pronounced lack of properly style-forward boutique hotels. Doing its part to combat that perception is Hotel G, an exceedingly attractive and not at all un-luxurious hotel in an absolutely plum location, just to the west of Union Square. There’s a certain warmth to the décor, an almost Scandinavian combination of organic warmth and visual sparseness, as well as an eclectic collection of lamps and furnishings that subtly recall the building’s Victorian heritage. And while at this price point you can’t expect six-star opulence, you’ll find Hotel G’s rooms are, in terms of comfort, a cut above some of the earlier generations of San Francisco boutique hotels. As for the neighborhood, you’re within walking distance of much of the city’s best shopping, a fair number of likely business destinations, and an extravagant profusion of restaurants and bars
