Sundays are crowded at Little Italy’s Alati-Caserta, but there are worse things than waiting in line while gazing at the tiered cakes in the display window. This bakery across from the famous Madonna della Difesa church has all the classic Italian treats you might not see elsewhere: savory taralli, orange-zested sfogliatella, biscotti, and their traditional ricotta cannoli. We come here all through the year for their chewy amaretti and pistachio cookies by the pound, and in the summer, there’s nothing like devouring a cup of their lemon granita in Parc Dante across the street.
