Rustic Mornings is an all-day breakfast joint on a quiet corner of Marikina. They have a solid roster of Filipino morning classics, but home in on their fluffy, not-too-sweet buttermilk pancakes and crisp waffles, which are the best in the city thanks to a buttermilk batter that lends richness and an almost savory depth of flavor. You can choose to sit outside or in the indoor, air-conditioned area. Either way, you’ll be surrounded by plants, paintings, and rustic windchimes. Rustic Mornings also has a wide selection of standard café food, like smoothie bowls, sandwiches, salads, pizzas, and pasta, which makes it ideal if you’re with a crowd that can’t agree on one thing. There’s a small bakery on-site that sells some decent cakes, convenient for birthdays and special occasions, but we prefer to stick to the breakfast dishes.
