During our stay in Kyoto we spent time at this marvellous Shinto shrine complex. Beautiful traditional architecture, lots of colour and lots of huge and smaller Tori Gates. Very crowded with tourists.

Visited around 3pm on a Monday mid February 2026. So easy to get to from Kyoto. Went half way up and even that was a stretch. Wear good walking shoes.

The first part is busy, but it becomes calmer as you go up. Great atmosphere, great photos, and worth doing early for more space.
