In New Delhi they already know a thing or two about business-oriented luxury hotels. But there’s room for a perspective from abroad as well, in the form of the Hong Kong–based Shangri-La group. This 320-room high-rise in Delhi’s government district is as comfortable, as opulent, as any of the colonial-style five-star hotels, but with a style of its own — a style, not surprisingly, that recalls some of the finest hotels in East Asia. Clean modern lines and sleek Asian-inspired furnishings set the tone in the rooms and suites, which feature all the modern-luxe standards: flat-screen satellite TV, broadband internet access, and oversized, almost indulgent bathrooms, with separate showers and tubs. The Horizon Club rooms provide the expected amenity upgrade — more space, dedicated concierge service, late check-out, a semi-private lounge — as well as farther-reaching views from the building’s upper floors. Along with the rooms come the full array of top-flight services: the spa and fitness center, complete with personal trainers and an outdoor swimming pool, and a small handful of restaurants and bars, including an Asian-inspired eatery and a cocktail bar with a deep selection of wines, whiskies and cigars.
