Room For Improvement has been the place to have a night out in Portland since it opened in 2023. If you’re just in town for lobster rolls, though, play it cool—we’ve heard rumors they won’t let you in unless you have a Maine driver’s license. Those rumors are false, but there’s always a fun crowd of locals here because the bar really reps Maine. They serve the state’s iconic red wieners and use Allen’s Coffee Brandy (often referred to as the champagne of Maine) in their Mind Eraser cocktail. The latter should be sipped in one go, and the dark space—covered in license plates, Miller High Life bottles, and other trinkets—is the perfect place to do it.
