Red Rice Soul Food is a family-run counter-service spot in East Atlanta serving cartons full of above-average soul food. The owners are excited about the food and eager for you to join their flock of regulars, so don’t blink if you’re handed a thick slice of cornbread to try right there. No acting required—the cornbread is actually great, and so is pretty much everything else. Almost every order comes with red rice, a tomato-based Gullah Geechee classic that’s delicious enough to standalone but makes a filling compliment to whatever you ordered. The menu is built for big appetites with containers weighed down with so much food you could tear a bicep. And if you’re really hungry, we suggest the Big Back Plate, which comes with three meats (grilled salmon, steak and peppers, and shrimp in a sweetish sauce) and three sides. This place is popular and some things are cooked to order, so order online if you don’t want to wait.
