Apocalypse BBQ isn’t worth waiting five hours in line. Then again, no restaurant is worth waiting five hours in line. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go, because Apocalypse throws a sauce-heavy party where Kendall's hungriest citizens can fully unleash their outside voices. Even though Apocalypse moved from a little golf course shack to a much larger location, it still looks a bit like Disney World on weekends. Food is only part of the reason why eager dads, Kendall Greens High School couples, and golfing regulars brave the wait. Apocalypse is the most fun restaurant in Kendall, and the most Kendall restaurant in Kendall. The staff lovingly refer to you as “bro” and on Wednesdays, when wings are a dollar a piece, 70% of the tables are filled with mini mountains of saucy drumsticks. There is no limit to how many you can order and everyone acts like they’ve entered a competitive eating competition. Barbecue snobs might fixate on the occasional oversmoked brisket or ribs a little too drowned in sauce, but it’s silly to get that serious while there’s mojo mustard all over your face and “Uptown Girl” is playing in the background. It’s not impossible to get into Apocalypse. Wednesdays are the first day of the week they open and it’s also when they have the shortest wait time. Come for an early lunch (around noon) and you can easily walk in. Friday and Saturday nights, however, are a different beast. You might get quoted a wait time of one and a half Harry Potter movies. So until the hype dies down, sneak out of the office with your hungriest coworker on a Wednesday and go vacuum 30 wings.
