Families, coworkers, and birthday boys and girls love Molina’s Cantina—the booths and tables inside the cave-like dining room are huge—almost as much as Molina's loves them back. The menu at Houston's oldest continually operating Tex-Mex spot is full of lore and references to favorite customers and family, like the (must-order) Nancy Ames’ Special Nachos, which landed the menu in response to customer demand after the owner made them on TV in the ‘70s with Ames, a local broadcaster. Those nachos, individually constructed into perfect bites, are just one of the many things that set Molina's apart from the pack, as well as the gargantuan shrimp and the zingy, vinegar-based salsa, which is unlike almost any other Tex-Mex place we know in the city. You'll also get a free plate of pecan pralines made with condensed milk and vanilla that make a crumbly, sweet end to the meal, even if it's not your birthday.
