Southern Spain is blessed with an array of natural gifts: not just sun, sand and surf, but a climate and a landscape that are ideal for the game of golf. And while golf resorts the world over are a conservative lot, Spanish hotels have been quicker than most to modernize — beneath its traditional red tile roofs, the Finca Cortesín is a contemporary-style luxury resort of the new breed. It’s an all-suite property, with some 67 of them, from junior suites on up to the presidential. All are at least fifty square meters, and open onto a private garden or terrace. Bathrooms are luxurious, spa-style, and the living rooms come with plasma televisions and interactive home theater systems. A resort as modern as Finca Cortesín naturally includes a fitness center, in this case with a 25-meter indoor pool, and a full-service spa with a range of treatments as a diversion for non-golfers. Two outdoor pools make the most of the plentiful Andalusian sunshine, as does a nearby private beach club with the Mediterranean Sea. And of course there’s the golf club itself, with an 18-hole par-72 course spread over 70 acres and a Jack Nicklaus golf academy for first-class instruction.
