Letna Park has seen a lot of history. It was here in the ‘50s when Communist authorities placed a 100-foot-tall statue of Josef Stalin. In the ‘90s, Pope John Paul II held mass in the park. And six years later, Michael Jackson consecrated it as pop music holy ground by staging a concert for 100,000 fans and erecting a 35-foot statue of himself in military regalia in the same place where the granite Stalin once stood. These reasons alone are why you should point yourself here. The other one—and it’s also a big one—is that Letna is home to the city’s best beer garden. Set amidst the verdant chestnut trees, it’s one of the best spots in the city to down a few pints while gawking at the view of the city and watching a few hundred locals and visitors perform a Prague magic trick: making hundreds of pints of beer disappear, aided by snacks like fried cheese and sausages.
