About

We're pretty sure galbijim covered in blowtorched cheese isn’t something you can patent, but if it were, the rights would belong to Sun Nong Dan. The original location of this 24-hour restaurant in Koreatown built its reputation around giant pots of braised short rib, known for feeding the hungry friend groups that'd line up once the bars closed. Sun Nong Dan’s location on Sawtelle—also open 24 hours—has similar crowds, but you’ll likely see people ordering individual bowls of their excellent beef-bone soups like galbitang or seolleongtang instead of family-sized cauldrons of galbijim (the lack of great Korean soup spots on the Westside probably has something to do with it). The room here is regularly packed with UCLA hoodies and Amazon corporate fleeces, with servers wandering between tables to blowtorch mozzarella. It still makes for a fun show, but the real utility of Sun Nong Dan Sawtelle is that you can stop by for a casual bowl of galbitang and a tasty banchan set any time of day—literally.
