With so many elite steakhouses on the Strip, why wander off? In the case of High Steaks Vegas at the top of the Rio, it’s mostly for the striking view. (Though you’ll have to walk from your window table out onto the patio for the best panorama.) High Steaks is your typical steakhouse, so you could pluck oysters off an icy seafood tower, dig into a long-boned 40-ounce Flintstonean tomahawk, or time travel to vintage Vegas and tackle the prime rib. But the latter is too smoky, as if it just came off a campfire, and you came all the way to the Rio anyway, so you should try something off The Hunt. It’s a wild game menu which includes bison, elk, venison, and “lion,” a.k.a. lion’s mane mushroom. Lean, tender and juicy, the bison filet is the most beef-like, while the elk chop is a tad more earthy, and both make a trip here feel a little more worth it. We also like sitting down at the bar and snacking on drippy, French-dip style sliders, but unless you’re staying at The Rio or have a hankering for elk, there are stronger steakhouse options on The Strip than High Steaks.
