This cafe in Roosevelt has the spirit of a greasy spoon, without any actual animal product grease. The menu has diner classics made in clever vegan ways, like fake chicken drumsticks with edible sugar cane “bone," or plump omelets that taste just like they were made from pampered chickens on a Washington farm. Like any good daytime counter, there's a pleasant clatter of plates and conversations through the bi-level space. (Less typical, but no less delightful, are the video loops of cats hanging by fireplaces). And with minimal wait times, you can usually rely on The Wayward Vegan for a leisurely breakfast with a group, no matter the mix of dietary preferences.
