Drusie and Darr was built for special occasions. It’s in The Hermitage Hotel, a historic stunner of a space that’s glamorously Art Deco. Also, it's run by Jean-Georges. With that context, it might seem a little odd that there are paper place mats and waiters in head-to-toe denim. But it’s that lack of pretension that makes it perfect for celebrating a birthday or anniversary with someone who “doesn’t want to make a fuss." The massive mother-of-pearl chandeliers and soft gray curved banquettes help set the scene for fancy dishes like an incredible egg toast topped with a small mountain of caviar. But the highlight of the whole menu—a roster of five pizzas, including a famous black truffle pie—gets served on nothing but a paper plate and a sheet of parchment. No elaborate presentation needed. To skip dessert here would be like proposing while standing up—a.k.a. you really don't want to do that. Because that would mean missing out on a life-changing sour cherry pie with housemade pistachio ice cream. If it’s on the menu, you’re going to want to devour it with reckless abandon—with your pinky up, of course.
