Bar Kamon is a cozy 1920s-themed bar in the back of Asa Cafe & Bakery in the East Village. It looks a bit like a period drama, with an antique wall-mounted telephone, shoji paper screen walls, and even a zen garden. From oversized armchairs and low-slung love seats, date nights and group hangs unfold over an extensive whiskey list and Japanese-influenced classics like hojicha-infused Negronis and curry powder-dusted espresso martinis. An order of crispy, succulent chicken karaage is substantial enough to share before catching a live open-air show at Quartyard across the street.
