For a global brand that claims to "Bring Inspiration and Innovation to Every Athlete," the offerings in Shanghai are surprisingly uninspired. In a city that is a futuristic hub of technology and design, I expected to see cutting-edge products, perhaps more integration of sustainable materials like Next Nature, or wearable tech. Instead, the focus is overwhelmingly on retro styles. It feels less like a forward-thinking sportswear lab and more like a museum archive. While classics have their place, the balance is off. For those of us seeking true performance evolution and new ideas, this store, and by extension Nike's current global strategy, is a miss. They are resting on their laurels instead of building new ones.
