Nanyang Inn The Nostalgia of Overseas Hakka in a Hakka Ancient BuildingNanyang Inn, reconstructed from an old traditional Hakka residential building, embodies the mutual embrace between Hakka culture and Nanyang Southeast Asia. It retains the original architectural style and layout centered around the arcade. Nanyang-style shutters are added, and the setting sun casts dappled light through the grilles, much like the old photos sent home by overseas Hakka. The corridor features Hakka indigo-dyed fabrics paired with Nyonya floral tiles. The collision of indigo blue and bright yellow is a color dialogue between hometown and a foreign land. The entire house is based on wood tones, dotted with red lanterns and hibiscus decorations the festive red of Hakka meets the vibrant flowers of Nanyang, just like the nostalgia in the ancestors luggage and their longing for the distance. Every design element is a two-way miss preserving the roots of Hakka while bringing back the memories of Nanyang to the hometown.
