In 1934, it was redesigned and renovated into Jingyi Villa by the renowned architect Sun Zhixia. It was the villa of Zhang Jingjiang, one of the four senior statesmen of the Republic of China. The name Jingyi was derived from one character each from Zhang Jingjiang and his wife Zhu Yimin. The main building of the villa is a two-story structure made of stone and wood. There is a corridor on the second floor leading directly to the auxiliary building, and the outer walls are made of cyan granite, featuring a modern European pastoral style.Villa 414 is the former residence of Guo Bingwen. The construction date of this villa is unrecorded; it was built by Americans and purchased by Guo Bingwen in 1934. Guo Bingwen was a famous Chinese educator. He graduated from Shanghai Qingxin Academy in his early years, and later studied at Wooster College and Columbia Normal College successively. He was the first Chinese doctor of education in China. In 1921, he served as the first president of the National Southeast University also the first president of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. The Southeast University is known in the education circle as Chinas first modern national university.Villa 500 is located at the gate of Luhuadang Park. Built in the 32nd year of the Guangxu reign 1906, it has a history of more than 100 years and was the Summer Post Office on Moganshan at that time.Every autumn, the several century-old red maple trees in the courtyard of Villa 410 Jingyi Villa and the ginkgo trees in Villa 414 become popular check-in spots for photographers.The three old villas of Manting Hotel are not only witnesses to history but also inheritors of culture.
