In Mykonos for 24 hours? Explore the best of the city.
Less8AM : Fresh off the flight – or boat – check into Kalesma, a five-star hotel located close to all the action, but with blissfully serene views onto Ornos Bay. Once your bags have been dropped off, take a quick plunge in the infinity pool before heading out to discover the area.
10AM : Book a bike tour with Yummy Pedals, for some exercise to counterbalance all the hedonistic party-going to come. Choose the tour that ends in Fokos Beach and spend an extra hour splashing around the last “natural” beach on the island.
NOON : Take a terrace table at Fokos Taverna, where a beach shack vibe recalls Mykonos’ bohemian heyday. At this family-run restaurant, everything is home-made, from the mayonnaise to the ice cream. Make sure to call ahead to reserve.
2PM : Pay your respects at the Tourliani Monastery, one of the most beautiful churches in all of Mykonos. The cool marble interior is rich with the smell of incense and full of treasures, such as a wooden iconostasis carved by Florentine artisans.
3PM : Don a designer swimsuit and head to Scorpios, the undisputed star of the daytime beach club scene. Indeed, there’s nothing more Mykonian than stretching out on a palm-fringed sunbed and sipping champagne to the sound of techno beats.
7PM : Take a tour of Chora, once the heat of the afternoon has worn off. In the summer, shops stay open until late. For classic Greek designs, head to Parthenis, which has been producing its elegant, airy unisex clothes since the 1970s.
8PM : Enjoy a refreshing cocktail at the 180 Degrees Sunset Bar, while admiring the pink and gold-hued rays of the sun as it dips beyond the Aegean. The Harmony – gin mixed with mastiha (a tree resin found on the island of Chios), caper leaves and Aegean tonic water – is a must.
9PM : Head to Yēvo by Bill & Coo, where Greek home cooking is given a gourmet twist in a sleek, sexy and very dimly lit dining room. Opt for the tasting menu, and allow the sommelier to recommend the best Greek wine pairing for each dish.
11PM : Take a walk down to Jackie O’s, a gay institution that put Mykonos on the map back in the 1970s as the premier party destination in the Cyclades, and is still going strong today. When the clock strikes midnight, a gaggle of drag queens emerges and puts on a show-stopping performance.
2AM : Put on your dancing shoes and head to Super Paradise, the leading light among Mykonos’ endless supply of beach bars and clubs. Initially a gathering place for hippies and other free spirits, it now has a decidedly more commercial vibe but remains a legendary club all the same.
9:30AM : Tuck into breakfast at Gioras, the oldest working bakery in Mykonos, which opened in the 18th century. It’s the ideal place to pick up a few savoury pastries (try the spanakopita, or spinach pie) to fuel up for the day.
1PM : Stop for an iced coffee at Soho Roc House, without a doubt the most fashionable place for an afternoon caffeine fix. The members-only hotel and club is one of the island’s hottest social spots.
