Once a quiet corner of Mayfair, Mount Street has transformed into a nexus of art, gastronomy, and design. Our contributor, Sophie Hay, unveils her handpicked selection of beloved haunts within London's prestigious neighborhood.
LessA cornerstone of Mount Street, The Connaught is one of London’s most iconic stays, and for good reason. This historic address opened in 1815 and over the past two centuries, has played host to royals, artists, and celebrities, including Princess Diana and Cary Grant. The Connaught continues to set the standard, from the moment you are greeted by Carl Holness, The Connaught’s smiling doorman, right through to check-out.
Tucked behind Brown Hart Gardens, The Beaumont is a discreet five-star hotel that nods to 1920s New York thanks to rich Art Deco interiors, walnut-panelled walls, and a low-lit Magritte Bar that feels like it’s been lifted straight from a noir film. The signature restaurant serves up elevated American grill classics—think corn ribs and dry-aged steaks—in a clubby, old-school setting.
The Twenty Two blends Mayfair elegance with a touch of hedonism. Housed in a grand Edwardian townhouse, it functions as both a hotel and a private members’ club, drawing a creative, fashion-loving crowd. Rooms and suites are eclectic yet plush: velvet four-poster beds, blue-trim robes and playful antiques create a lived-in kind of luxury. Downstairs, the all-day restaurant serves up polished modern British dishes with views over Grosvenor Square.
Scott’s is a London institution. First established in 1851 as an oyster warehouse, it moved to its current Mount Street location in 1968 and quickly cemented its status as one of the city’s most-loved seafood restaurants. Its old-school interiors—white linen, mirrored walls, and a marble-topped oyster bar—have long attracted London’s elite. Famously, it was here that Ian Fleming is said to have first ordered a dry martini “shaken, not stirred,”.
If dining surrounded by fine art is your idea of a good time, then make sure to make a reservation at Mount St. Restaurant. Located on the first floor of The Audley pub, Mount St. Restaurant reimagines classic London dining in a space defined by an exceptional modern art collection, featuring over 200 works by the likes of Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse, Lucian Freud, and Philip Guston.
Established in 1953, the year of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation, Delfino Mayfair has been a timeless icon of the Mount Street Neighbourhood ever since. Think old-school Italian with a side of Mayfair glamour. Signature classics like their Tagliatelle al Tartufo, veal Milanese, and wood-fired Margherita pizzas have earned them a loyal following, while the tiramisu has become something of local legend.
Located on the corner of Mount Street and South Audley Street, The Audley Public House is not your average boozer. Expect a well-kept selection of draught beers and ciders in a cosy, but oh-so-chic pub setting. Behind the bar, a chalkboard menu lists comforting British classics, from sausage rolls to Scotch eggs and on Sunday they serve up one of the best roast dinners in town.
Underground, but no longer a secret, you can find Wine Bar tucked downstairs under Farm Shop, the neighbourhood’s popular deli. With 200 bottles on the list - including their own Maid of Bruton - and 40 available by the glass, it’s as suited to a spontaneous midweek pour as it is to a special occasion. The food is good too. Salami is sliced to order, cheese served straight from the counter, and rotisserie chicken carved daily.
Mount Street Gardens offers visitors a little oasis to recharge and catch their breath after a morning of exploring. Once part of a church burial ground, this hidden pocket of green is now a favourite escape for those in the know: neighbourhood residents, tired shoppers, and the occasional hotel guest wandering in from The Connaught. Grab a coffee from Hideaway, choose a bench and settle in.
