In Milan for 24 hours? Explore the best of the city.
Less8AM : Wake up with a cappuccino and a delicate pastry at the bar of the Sant Ambroeus, before leaving with a box of biscuits, indispensable for tackling the day.
9AM: Swim in a Rationalist pool with a dip in the Piscina Cozzi. With its straight-lined 1930s design, the pool in the Viale Tunisia is the perfect place for some morning lengths, especially since it also has a Speedo swimsuit shop, very handy if you’ve forgotten yours.
11AM: Have a fine traditional shave with Gian Antonio Pisterzi, a young barber who works in the luxurious calm of his private salon.
NOON : Pay a visit to Sease for sporty, contemporary, elegant garments by brothers Franco and Giacomo Loro Piana, in their new shop designed by Sebastiano Tosi.
1PM: Lunch like a Milanese in the company of top designers at the Trattoria da Pino, where Mauro prepares daily specials and desserts that are both traditional and creative.
2PM: Shop at the trendy L’Arabesque, Chichi Meroni’s store of choice, which embraces fashion, perfume, vintage jewellery, books and 1950s Italian furniture, before enjoying a coffee break.
4PM : Admire the fascinating collection of 16th- to 18th-century watches, clocks and jewellery on display on the first floor of the Museo Poldi Pezzoli.
6PM : Order a bouquet at Radaelli, the elegant florist whose interior, designed by Guglielmo Ulrich, has remained untouched since 1945.
7PM: Enjoy a Campari Soda and nibbles by Davide Oldani in the historic setting of the Camparino, at the entrance to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
9PM : Enjoy a dinner by a starred chef, Andrea Aprea, on the fifth floor of the Etruscan Museum, in an evocative interior designed by Flaviano Capriotti. Milan’s best restaurant.
10PM : In summer, give in to the ritual of the gelato. Thanks to the glut of ice-cream shops in the city and a profusion of flavours (gusti), every Milanese has a favourite local store. Head for the red and white Sartori kiosk behind the Stazione Centrale. It’s open until 1am. An experience.
MIDNIGHT : Book a table at the Rumore, the new American bar located in an old convent whose name is derived from a song by Raffaella Carrà. Addictive cocktails and live concerts on the menu.
