Latto’s music is all about Southern flavor as demonstrated by her new album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea. Now the Atlanta-based rapper is giving us a tour of her hometown, sharing the best spots only a local would know.
Less"This is on the eastside of Atlanta, inside the 285 Flea Market. I don’t know the booth number, but I know how to get there when I walk in. I get my gold grills and custom necklaces and bracelets made here quickly. They even do it on the same day. It always feels nostalgic going in because, growing up in the early 2000s, everybody used to hit the discount mall for grills."
"One of the best breakfast spots in Atlanta! It’s a small, very mom-and-pop-style spot with a good country breakfast. I always order the salmon croquettes, scrambled eggs with cheese, turkey bacon, cheese grits, and a side of French toast. Everything on the menu is good, though. Atlanta’s gonna kill me for blowing up the spot like this!"
"Definitely a hidden gem in Clayton County. I used to own a boutique in the same Kroger’s plaza off Tara Boulevard, so I’d grab lunch from here all the time. I’m sure I’ve had it five days a week before. My potato had chicken, broccoli, cheese, ranch, and sour cream. They’ve got tons of different flavors, and I’m sure even more now. They’ve got a few more locations now too. I think they even let me use the spot for a video shoot way back in the day."
"This is the only mall in Clayton County, so we spent a lot of time here. Anytime I got Christmas or birthday money, I spent it all here. When we were really young, my sister Brook and I used to beg our parents for money to ride the big carousel in the front when you first walk in. I also used to be here at 5 a.m. standing in line for the new Jordans on Saturdays. I don’t remember the name, but there was a Chinese food spot in the food court you had to hit before you left."
"An Atlanta staple! This spot is off Moreland Avenue. We’ve got so many memories here—hell, we still go to this day. I remember my daddy making me and my sister Brook hide in the back seat underneath the blankets we would bring so he didn’t have to buy our tickets. Then I remember one of his friends ended up working there and would just let us through for free sometimes. When I had a song in the Fast & Furious soundtrack, we went here to watch it and hear my song come on."
"I discovered this spot when I was a teenager and have loved it ever since. It’s a 24-hour doughnut spot in the city. They’ve got some Atlanta-themed doughnuts and merch. It’s always so fun choosing from all the flavors to make your dozen assorted box. It’s available on Uber Eats to order, too, if you’re feeling lazy."
"This is the most Atlanta nail shop ever. They’ve got hookah for you while you’re getting your mani-pedi. One thing about Atlanta—we love our hookah! They do good nails, too, for sure, but the selling point is definitely the hookah."
"Okay, now this spot switched names on me, and I’m sure probably looks very different than it did when I was growing up, but everybody from Clayton County’s gotta know about this place. When we first moved to Georgia, we lived in Riverdale, not far from here, so we spent a lot of summers begging to go here. Six Flags was a far drive for us on the southside, so this was a cheaper, closer option for amusement parks."
"You know I had to put a strip club on here. It’s what Atlanta is known for! This is my favorite strip club right now. 2 Chainz is the owner and my cousin—fun fact. Great food, beautiful women, low key, just a vibe every time. What’s better than a plate of lemon pepper wings, dancing, hookah, and shots?"
"Another Clayton County staple. It’s a man-made “beach” on the southside (more like a small lake), but they have water slides, sand, and water, so we spent a lot of summers begging to get dropped off with our friends here. I remember one time getting paid to perform at a kid’s birthday party here for probably like $200. We did one of my sister Brook’s birthday parties here too."
