Purgatory Chasm is a unique natural landmark offering exciting adventure. Follow trails to rock formations such as The Corn Crib, The Coffin and Lovers’ Leap. After exploration, settle down for an afternoon picnic. Note: The Chasm is closed during the wet winter season.

Borderland State Park features a historic mansion that is often open for tours. It also has trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding, fishing and boating in the pond, and facilities for tennis and disc golf. With over 20 miles of hiking trails ranging from moderate to difficult, many of them are stroller- and kid-friendly.

Rolling fields lined by tree groves, a trio of ponds and gurgling brooks comprise this lovely spot in nature. Broad lawns provide perfect picnic spots, while tennis courts and a tot lot beckon the more active of all ages. More than three miles of easy walking paths crisscross the park. Best of all, a portion of the walkways is surfaced and perfect for strollers.

With more than five miles of wide carriage paths bordered by woods, Appleton Farms Grass Rides was originally designed for horseback riding. Don’t miss the Great Pasture Trail, which parallels a stone wall bordered by forest on one side and the beautiful open landscape of the Great Pasture, dotted with cows (a kid favorite!). From the Pigeon Hill overlook, you can take in a panoramic view of the entire pasture.
