Kicking off from the Brisbane suburb of New Farm, let Amy Sheppard be your tour guide for a road trip across Queensland. Travelling the stunning coastline while also visiting special inland towns, here are Amy’s 10 must-visit destinations.
Less“New Farm is home for me—it’s where I reconnect with the simple things that make life beautiful. I love spending an afternoon at New Farm Park, lying on a picnic blanket under the jacarandas as the river glimmers beside me. It’s the perfect balance of peace and vibrancy, with incredible cafés and bars, and the old-school charm of Five Star Cinemas just around the corner. There’s nothing better than grabbing a coffee, strolling through the park and feeling the energy of this little oasis.”
“The southern end of the Gold Coast is pure magic. Burleigh has that perfect mix of surf, nature and relaxed sophistication. I love walking through Burleigh Head National Park, where the ocean views meet the rainforest in the most breathtaking way. Afterwards, grabbing a fresh açai bowl and ending the day with dinner overlooking the ocean is my idea of heaven. It’s only a short drive from Brisbane, but every time I arrive, it feels like I’ve escaped on holiday.”
“Toowoomba will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s where my husband is from, and we spend many weekends with family here. The drive up the range is breathtaking, especially in the afternoon light when the sun hits the rolling farmland. We make time for a visit to BellaVino—the wine tastings are such a beautiful experience and make every trip extra special. It’s a city that feels both grand and grounded: full of country charm, heritage buildings and incredible local produce.”
“Winton will always be tied to one of my earliest country music memories: playing at the Way Out West Fest. I’ll never forget an impromptu jam session in the motel lobby with Andrew Farris from INXS, one of those ‘pinch me’ moments that only happen in small, magical towns. The Australian Age of Dinosaurs is a must-see—standing among the fossils connects you to the land’s incredible history. Winton’s rich heritage, warm locals and outback beauty make it one of Queensland’s most fascinating gems.”
“Airlie Beach will forever be my fairy-tale destination—it’s where Lachie and I got married in 2021. We said our vows at Paradise Cove, Woodwark Bay, surrounded by turquoise water and white sand. It was honestly like something out of a dream. The day was everything I’d ever imagined: peaceful, romantic and perfectly Queensland. It’s truly a slice of paradise and the ultimate backdrop for life’s most special memories.”
“Cairns is the gateway to tropical Far North Queensland and a city that always feels alive with energy. My sister was born here, and I’ve played so many unforgettable shows here, including Savannah in the Round, which I’ve now performed at three times. I love staying at Crystalbrook Riley, where you can unwind by the pool with views of the Coral Sea—pure bliss after a show. Between the reef, the rainforest and the endless summer heat, Cairns is my happy place.”
“The Scenic Rim is one of Queensland’s hidden treasures—you’re surrounded by rugged mountain ranges and lush green valleys. I love spending weekends here exploring the wineries, boutique stays and cute little country shops. Balancing Heart Vineyard is one highlight. The wine and food are incredible, and I’m obsessed with the friendly ducks wandering around. It’s the perfect getaway whether you’re with your partner or your girlfriends, and it always leaves you feeling refreshed and inspired.”
“Noosa is the jewel of the Sunshine Coast and one of the most stunning places in Australia. It’s a blend of lush national park, pristine beaches, and some of my favourite restaurants and bars. Bistro C is the perfect spot to experience that relaxed yet chic Noosa vibe—dining right on the beach with an ocean breeze and a cocktail in hand. You instantly understand why locals are so protective of it: It’s pure, untouched beauty.”
“K’gari is one of those places that takes your breath away no matter how many times you visit. The fact that it’s the world’s largest sand island—with crystal-clear lakes, towering rainforests and endless beaches—still blows my mind. My favourite spot has to be Lake McKenzie: It’s like swimming in liquid sapphire, so pure and calm it feels otherworldly. It’s one of the most peaceful, grounding places I’ve ever been—the kind of place that reminds you how special Queensland really is.”
“Bribie Island feels like home in a different way: Our family had a little holiday unit there for years. Back when Sheppard first started touring, weekends at Bribie were my escape from the chaos, where I could just breathe again. I love stopping by The Jetty for delicious food and a stunning view. It’s one of those Queensland experiences that never gets old. The sunsets, the gentle ocean breeze and the slower pace of life always make me feel instantly calm.”
